The United Nations General Assembly declared, in a resolution sponsored by the United Kingdom and Costa Rica in 1982, September 21st as an International Day of Peace, in order to commemorateand strengthen the ideals of peace among all nations and people.
This year, world leaders, together with civil society, local authorities and the private sector, met in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil for the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development to renew political commitment to long term sustainable peace development. This inspired Pak Arthur and B.Regina, as Model United Nations advisors, to ask our students to actively participate in promoting peace. It all starts with the simplest things in everyday life.
On Monday, September 24, 2012, we are holding an MUN Annual International Peace Day – Speech Competition in the MPH (Multi Purpose Hall) next to the Librarywhere quite a large number of students will share their creative and imaginative ideas in promoting peace via their 3 minute speeches.
The entire school has decided to participate in creating pinwheels for peace, during tutor group everyone will be constructing a pinwheel and decorating it with messages of peace and good will. We will then plant our pinwheels in the ground between the entrance to the school and the canteen in order that everyone will see the colourful reminder that peace starts at home with each one of us.
As the wind blows the pinwheels may their messages take to the skies with the breeze…
